    What a round actually involves

A round is a specific sequence of three elements, practiced in order:

    1

    Asanas

Approximately 10-15 minutes of gentle yoga postures designed to prime the body for stress release.

    2

    Pranayama

A few minutes of gentle alternate-nostril breathing that settles the mind and body in advance of meditating.

    3

    Vedic Meditation

Your standard practice, followed by lying down for a few minutes of silent rest to allow the body to integrate what was released.

This sequence, done once, is a round. Done multiple times in succession over several days in a supervised residential setting, it becomes Rounding.

The science behind accelerated stress release

Regular Vedic Meditation is already highly effective at releasing accumulated stress from the nervous system.

The asanas and pranayama that precede each meditation help release many of the stresses that would ordinarily wait until you were sitting to meditate. This means that when you do sit to meditate, you release stress more deeply than usual.

When you repeat this process multiple times across several days in a supervised retreat setting, with no interruptions, no domestic demands, and a qualified teacher overseeing the process, the body can release in a few days what would normally take six months of regular home practice.

As Thom Knoles describes it: Rounding is an industrial-strength meditation program. The accelerated dissolution of stress is its greatest long-term advantage.

Rounding must be learned in person

Rounding must be learned under the in-person supervision of a qualified Vedic Meditation teacher. It is not something that can be learned online or without direct instruction.

Once you have learned to Round properly, you can practise it at home. Your teacher will give you guidance on the correct protocol to apply.

    Where Rounding is taught

Rounding is taught in person, either at a dedicated Rounding workshop or on a residential retreat run by a qualified Vedic Meditation teacher. The Meditation People runs Rounding workshops periodically. Rounding instruction is also included as part of our Meditation Retreat.

If you have not yet learned to Round, a retreat or Rounding workshop is the place to do it.

Rounding is a prerequisite for Exploring the Veda. If you are planning to attend Exploring the Veda and have not yet learned to Round, a workshop or retreat is the natural first step.
